Acropack Maintenance

Compared to many extensive green roof systems, Hydropack requires little maintenance, even on a slope application. However, this small amount of maintenance is essential to maintain a successful system. We recommend that a formalized maintenance plan be formulated before the installation of any project. This maintenance can be performed by building maintenance, landscapers, or through a contract with a specialized organization.

Hydropack trays are shipped with 90% coverage of established plants. For this reason, the typical establishment maintenance associated with new green roof systems is unnecessary. We recommend 6-10 maintenance visits per year.

Each maintenance visit includes:

  • Manually weeding unsightly or unwanted species
  • The removal of leaves or other debris that may smother vegetation or clog storm drains
  • Remove any debris or vegetation that surrounds the gutters
  • Verifying that the green roof is not sliding: contact our team ASAP if you notice any problem!
  • Check the irrigation system and the programming: you want to water enough (once per day or even twice per day during the growing season) but you don't want water dripping out of the green roof system. When using sprinklers, some water will drip down the gutters during the first minutes as the water is percolating on the vegetation, it then infiltrates in the growing media.
  • System monitoring of vegetation or other rooftop conditions that may cause a long term problem such as roof drain clogging or other problems with the vegetation system. (This damage could be caused by flying debris, birds, rodents, extended drought, or disease) If you notice a loss of vegetation coverage, contact us ASAP.
