Hydroventiv Installation Guide

The capstone of every Hydroventiv installation is Hydropack.  If you have never installed Hydropack before, please make sure and read through the Hydropack Installation Guide before continuing on to the Hydroventiv guide.

Tray-installHydroaventiv is a system that consists of Hydropack on top of our stormwater management product Hydrostock.  Hydroventiv can be installed on nearly any type of roof with up to a 10% slope.  It can be installed on both new buildings and retrofit projects.

The Hydroventiv trays are installed directly above a protection fabric on top of the waterproofing membrane, like any other green roof tray system.

Below is a detailed guide to the installation of  Hydroventiv.

Installing the Hydroventiv trays

Begin the project by laying down the optional protective root barrier fabric. When using Hydroventiv the root barrier layer is not necessary but often specified as an extra precaution.

When placing Hydroventiv start at the lowest point on the roof and place the water retention trays from left to right, one row at a time. Be careful to follow the specifications provided.

Connector Trays are connected using the provided connectors. Each connector will also allow water to travel from tray to tray in one direction. It is important to place the connectors in the direction that is specified in order to enable water retention trays to retain the correct amount of water.
Single-Connector Each connector pair can be split to accommodate water sharing between the trays on the outside of the assembly.
Pressing-Connection Press the trays down on the connectors, and they will easily snap in to place, to ensure a proper seal.
Wicking-tower As you place the each tray, be sure to place each wicking pedestal at the top of the wicking pedestal mounts.
wicking-pedestal-2 Each tray will have two wicking pedestals.
Plug At the end of each row, or in the corner of a tray layout, it may be necessary to place a red plug in the corner of the last tray instead of a connector. Remember to pay close attention to the specifications of your specific project to obtain the correct placement.

After a row of water reserve trays has been placed. You may begin placing the Hydropack trays to complete the installation.

At one corner of the Hydropack tray you will find a pair of arrows. These arrows indicate the direction of the slope of the roof. Place the trays so that the arrows point down slope with your hands at the altering corners of the tray.

When placing the trays, be careful as to not move the wicking pedestals, which are an important component.

Continue this process row by row, being sure to place the flow regulator outlets where specified in the design. Continue to the next portion of the installation guide to see how the flow regulator is installed in the tray.

Installing the Flow Regulator

Outlets Follow the specification to locate the proper placement of the outlets/flow regulators. Each water reserve tray has a place to mount the regulator outlet on both the short and long side of the tray to drain water in the proper direction.
regulator-placement The regulator outlet is clearly marked on the outside of each tray.
Pilot-Hole First drill a pilot hole in the center of the market regulator outlet.
Drain-Hole Use a 3/8" drill bit to cut the actual hole that the regulator outlet will flow out of. It is important to leave a clean cut to ensure a good seal. No bits of plastic should remain on the edges of the hole.
Placing-Tube Push the regulator hose through the hole that has been drilled.

The numbers on the regulator will indicate a specific flow rate that is highlighted in the specification. Affix one end of the hose securely to the appropriate numbered outlet on the regulator.

In order to enable the regulator to move up and down on the pin properly, lift the regulator to the top of the pin to make sure that there is enough slack in the regulator hose.

hose-cut Cut the regulator hose to the proper length, by cutting the hose flush with the edge of the tray.
Grommit Place the outlet hose grommet on the hose.
Placed-Grommit Push the grommet securely into the hole that you drilled earlier. Feel the placed grommet to ensure that it has made a proper seal on the tray and will not leak.

After the installation is complete, water the roof copiously for 1 full hour taking care to ensure that the entire roof is thoroughly watered.

The material must be removed before leaving the roof in order to ensure that the system will function properly.
